My Lord

Lux

To the Rr Hamble.

282

April 17th 1883

As I understand that the office of Police magistrate in this Colony may shortly be vacant I have the honour to submit my name as candidate for the post. In support of my application I beg to state that I am Master of Arts, having graduated in honours in January 1876 at Trinity College Cambridge, and that I was called to the Bar by the Honorable Society of the Inner Temple in November 1876 and have practiced first on the South Eastern circuit and on the Kent and Canterbury sessions and subsequently at the Bar in this Colony.

I may add that whilst studying for the Bar I read in the Chambers of Mr. W. English Harrison of the Middle Temple and then in the Chambers of Mr I Badcock of 1 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.

Should your Lordship desire any further information with reference to my legal qualifications I would request that reference might be made to these gentlemen.

The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Downing Street.

I have the honour to be, My Lord, your obedient servant,

Ernest Mackean.
